The arrangement

Four steps, one weekend

We handle verification, deposits and protection. Your neighbour handles the handover and the good advice.

01

Pick a hobby

Answer three questions about your time, budget and where you'd be doing it. We shortlist kits that actually fit — not the whole catalogue.

02

Book your dates

Most kits run Friday evening to Sunday evening. Choose collection or, in central postcodes, a £6 drop-off. Deposit is held, never charged upfront.

03

Collect & use it

Owners walk you through the kit in ten minutes. Every kit ships with a printed starter guide and a checklist photographed at handover.

04

Return & decide

Return, we release the deposit within 48 hours. If you loved it, owners offer 15% off a second rental — or advice on what to buy first.

Trust & safety

The boring parts, written down

Renting a stranger's £400 camera only works if everyone knows exactly what happens when something goes wrong.

Owner verification

Every owner passes photo ID and address checks before their first listing goes live. We meet owners of high-value kits in person and photograph the kit ourselves.

Common questions

Before you book

What happens to my deposit?

It's authorised on your card, not taken. If the kit comes back as it went out — matched against the photo checklist you both signed off at handover — the hold is released within 48 hours. If something's missing or damaged, we tell you exactly what and why before anything is charged, and you can dispute it.

Is damage protection worth it?

For low-value kits like sourdough, honestly no. For anything with optics, an engine or water involved, yes: £4–£9 caps your exposure at a £25 excess instead of your full deposit. It's optional on every kit and you can add it up to the moment you collect.

Can I collect on a weekday?

Roughly half our owners offer midweek collection. Filter by "flexible dates" on the kits page. Weekend windows are the default because that's when most kits are actually free.

What if the weather ruins my plans?

Outdoor kits — camping, paddleboarding, stargazing — can be cancelled for weather up to two hours before collection for a full refund. We don't ask you to prove it; owners would rather have the kit back dry.

I liked the hobby. What now?

Most owners will tell you exactly what to buy and, more usefully, what not to. Renters get 15% off a second rental of the same kit, and we send a short buyer's guide written by the owner rather than by us. We'd rather you left and bought your own gear than felt stuck renting.

How do you make money?

A 12% service fee on each rental, plus the margin on optional damage protection. Owners keep the rest. There's no membership, no listing fee, and no charge for browsing.
